1st mobility

The 1st mobility of the KA 122 program «The School Changes», took place from 12 to 16 February 2024 at the Karl-Rehbein-Schule, in the city of Hanau, near Frankfurt, in the state of Hessen, Germany. In the mobility, which took the form of job shadowing, participated five teachers of our school, Spyros Papasideris (teacher of chemistry, program coordinator), Panagiotis Athanasopoulos (teacher of language and history), Iraklidis Christos (mathematician), Evropi Konstantinidi (teacher of sports) and Anastasia Gavrilioti (teacher of German language). The mobility was in response to a visit by three fellow teachers of the German school last October in Kazoulleio – 2nd Lyceum of Rhodes.

The Karl-Rehbein School, the largest «Gymnasium» in the region, has 2000 students aged 11 to 19 (from 5th to 13th grade) and 170 teachers. The school is housed in excellent facilities, a central and two smaller three-story buildings, it has about 100 classrooms, administrative, secretarial and teachers’ offices, many physics, chemistry, IT and art laboratories, a photography room, music and dance rooms, an event hall, library, restaurant and an indoor gym in a separate building. The classrooms are well equipped with all modern teaching aids and all the school premises are of excellent construction and maintenance.

The German school warmly welcomed the teachers of our school, who were given a tour of the facilities, attended lectures in various subjects of their specialty and came into contact with the teaching methods and good practices of their German colleagues. They also attended a meeting of the Teachers’ Council, were informed by the school’s administration and the teachers about the educational system of the state of Hessen, discussed on the organization and administration of the school, the relations between the actors of the school community (students, parents, teachers ), exchanged opinions and shared their experiences from everyday educational life. They also had the opportunity to discuss with the students of the school about school life, the pros and cons of the educational system, challenges and perspectives.

Upon their return to Rhodes, the participating teachers presented to their colleagues in a special meeting their experiences, impressions and conclusions from this constructive educational visit. They also discussed with them the possibilities of integrating into the Greek educational reality good practices – both in terms of the management of the school and in terms of teaching – which were recorded during the particularly enlightening «job shadowing» at German school.
